A Legacy of Strength:
A Phenomenological Exploration of the Strong Black Woman’s Evolution
Across Generations
We are currently recruiting participants for a qualitative research study exploring how Black women across generations understand, experience, and define strength - and how those experiences may shape health and well-being.
Through the voices of Black women from the Baby Boomer, Generation X, and Millennial generations, this research seeks to better understand how the Strong Black Woman Schema has evolved over time.
Why This Research?
The Strong Black Woman narrative has been passed down, adapted, questioned, and reimagined across generations - possibly contributing to some of the health disparities they experience. We want to learn what strength means to Black women across generations - and how those expectations intersect with their health and health behaviors.
Your perspective can contribute to a deeper understanding of Black women's lived experiences and help inform future conversations about health equity.
We're Looking For People Who:
- Identify as Black women
- Are between the ages of 30 and 80 years old
- Can function independently and make their own healthcare decisions
- Live in the US
What Participation Involves:
- A virtual interview conducted via Zoom
- Approximately 60 - 90 minutes of your time
- Discussion of your experiences, perspective, and understanding of strength
- Voluntary participation
